What We
Offer
Adult & Senior Eye Exams
Regular eye exams are important for both eye health and overall systemic health. At each visit, we will assess your vision and check for any signs of eye disease. It is generally recommended to get your eyes examined every 1-2 years, however your optometrist will recommend a schedule for you based on your unique eye health.
Diabetic Eye Exam
It is often said, “The eye is a window into the body.” Systemic health concerns including diabetes and high blood pressure can be first detected in the eye. Diabetes can cause changes to the eye, which can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. Our optometrists will work closely with your Primary Care Practitioner to monitor your eye and overall systemic health.
Children's Eye Exam
Vision plays an integral role in your child’s development. Yearly comprehensive eye exams are crucial to ensure optimal vision, eye alignment and eye teaming. The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends the following eye exam frequency for children:
-
First eye exam between 6-9 months
-
One eye exam between 2-5 years old
-
Yearly eye exams between 6-18 years old
Contact Lens Exam & Fitting
Contact lenses are a great alternative to wearing glasses! Our contact lens exam is designed based on your individual visual goals and needs. All contact lenses should be assessed and fit specific to your eyes to ensure clear and comfortable vision. Maintaining your eye health while meeting your vision goals is our top priority!
Laser Eye Surgery Co-Management
Laser eye surgery is a common surgical procedure that aims to correct vision. Our optometrists will discuss pros, cons and details about the procedure before diving into the laser vision correction process. As an elective procedure, it is important that patients make an informed choice based on their unique visual needs.
At Schiefer Optometry, our team provides laser co-management for LASIK, PRK and cataract surgery.

Tech that sets us apart
In our office, we leverage cutting-edge technology to provide exceptional support for our patients' eye health. Our advanced tools include Icare tonometry, which enables precise intraocular pressure measurements without the discomfort of an air puff. The TOPCON TRK is an all-in-one device adept at measuring the shape and thickness of the anterior eye surface, while visual field testing and Optical Coherence Tomography contribute to comprehensive diagnostics, ensuring a thorough assessment of various eye conditions.
Optical Coherence Tomography
OCT, or Optical Coherence Tomography, is an advanced eye scan suitable for individuals of all ages, utilizing light instead of sound waves, similar to ultrasound, to visualize the layers at the back of the eye. This technology enables us to instantly diagnose various common conditions in a non-invasive, painless, and quick way! The software can automatically detect subtle changes in the retina during every eye test, providing a comprehensive and valuable record of the eyes' health and condition.
Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyzer 3
Visual field testing is primarily employed to identify indications of glaucoma-related optic nerve damage, while also serving as a valuable tool for detecting various retinal diseases, eyelid conditions, and optic nerve disorders. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in identifying issues along the visual pathways, assisting in the determination of the location of strokes and brain tumors that impact the visual pathway and its processing in the occipital cortex for vision.
Icare
Tonometry
Icare tonometry eliminates the need for the traditional air puff method, providing a safe and accurate measurement of intraocular pressure without the use of anesthetic eye drops. This innovation enhances the overall patient experience by offering a more comfortable and efficient alternative while still collecting crucial information about intraocular pressure.
TOPCON
TRK
The TOPCON TRK is an all-in-one device designed to measure both the shape and thickness of the anterior surface of the eye. This comprehensive tool streamlines the assessment of key eye metrics in a single device.
